Introduction of Keratin Treatment

One of the most popular hair treatments in India is Keratin treatment. It is ideal for frizzy hair. Frizzy, dull and unmanageable hair poses a great problem.

Not only is styling them difficult, but it also takes a lot of effort and tools to make them look lustrous. Other than that, the constant use of heating tools on your hair damages them further

This way you get stuck in a vicious cycle and end up with severely damaged hair. This is where hair treatments are.

In Salon, you can get a lot of things done, for example, rebonding treatment, smoothening treatment or keratin treatment. In this article, we shall discuss keratin treatment.

About Keratin Hair Treatment

About Keratin Hair Treatment

Keratin is a secondary protein that constitutes hair. However, over time, due to the constant damage that our hair goes through, the amount of keratin in our hair decreases.

That leads to visible frizziness and damage. This leads to the loss of shine.

Well, in short, Keratin treatment restores the lost shine of your hair, making it glossy and beautiful. For up to six months, your hair looks beautiful and has a nice sheen to it.

They are more manageable and easier to comb through. You don’t even need any heat styling, because they have this straight beautiful look.

It is a way to rebuild your damaged hair. Keratin treatment takes around two to four hours in a salon depending on your hair length. The result lasts up to 6 months

How is Keratin treatment different from rebonding or straightening?

Keratin treatment aims to repair hair and restore all the lost keratin. It isn’t there to straighten your hair. Your hair might end up straighter, but it isn’t the goal.

In this respect, Keratin treatment is different from rebonding or straightening.

What are the different types of Keratin treatments?

Depending on the amount of formaldehyde used, there are many types of keratin treatments present. I have explained a few here.

  • Brazilian BlowoutIt is one of the oldest known methods. As the name suggests, it was invented in Brazil in the year 2004. It uses formaldehyde to hold hair in place. It straightens your hair properly. It also coats your hair with protein and adds a shine to it. It is expensive but worth it. It lasts up to about 3 to 3.5 months depending on how you take care of your hair.
  • Keratin Express: If you have curly or wavy hair and don’t want to lose the beautiful texture of your hair, then this is for you. This makes your hair more manageable and adds gloss to it. The procedure is applying keratin protein to your hair using a serum. Finally, this is locked in using a flat iron. The results last up to six weeks. This is also cost-effective.
  • Goldwell KerasilkIf you want a salon-like treatment at home, then Goldwell Kerasilk is for you. It treats your frizzy hair and makes them beautiful, all at your home. This is easy to use and results last up to a month or so.
  • Cezanne: Are you scared of formaldehyde ruining your hair? Do you need something less dependent on Keratin? Then Cezanne treatment is for you. It uses the least chemicals. It is for you if have fine hair and need to get rid of the frizz. It is the least intense of all the keratin treatments. It is a bit time-consuming too.
  • Keratin complex treatment: If your only goal is to eliminate frizz and get ultra-soft hair, then this is for you. This is the least strong of the procedures. Usually recommended to people who are new to the world of Keratin treatment.

What to do to make your keratin treatment results last longer?

Given that this treatment is so pricey, it is only fair that you want your results to last as long as possible. Usually, the results start to fade after a while.

But you can increase this duration if you use certain precautions. Here are the said precautions:

  • Avoid washing your hair after the treatment for a good while. Now, I am not saying to go without a shower for six months, just wait for a good four to five days before rinsing your hair. This helps formaldehyde set in the Keratin protein in your strands.
  • Using a flat iron on your hair is recommended as it seals in the product.
  • Use the shampoo and the conditioner your stylist recommended. These are formulated specially for you to have long-lasting results.
  • Only use paraben-free, sulphate-free and SLS-free products on your hair. You need to avoid sulphate-containing products at any cost because sulphate is known to reverse the results of hair treatments.
